Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Cleveland OH 726 AM EDT Mon May 25 2026

WHAT HAS CHANGED
A Dense Fog Advisory has been issued for areas between the I-71 and I-77 corridors through 9AM this morning. Patchy fog is likely elsewhere across the are as well.

KEY MESSAGES
1) Dense fog is expected this morning across central and northern Ohio with patchy fog likely elsewhere across the area.

2) High pressure builds into the region and dry weather and warming temperatures are expected through the majority of the week with a low chance of showers on Wednesday.

DISCUSSION
KEY MESSAGE 1...
Dense fog as begun to develop across central and northern Ohio early this morning and will persist through around 9AM.
Visibilities are seen dropping down to a quarter mile or less in places with dense fog creating hazardous driving conditions.
Elsewhere throughout the area, fog has been less widespread though there are areas of patchy, dense fog. May need an expansion of the Dense Fog Advisory in the coming hours if those locations begin to become more widespread. Fog should dissipate this morning as temperatures begin to rise.

KEY MESSAGE 2...
An upper level ridge begins to build into region starting on Monday and will persist through the middle of the week. Dry weather is expected and temperatures will rise into the upper 70s to low 80s by Wednesday afternoon. On Wednesday, a weak trough is expected to move through the region that may provide enough support for showers and thunderstorms throughout the day.
Currently PoPs are fairly low, with the highest chance south of the US 30 corridor with a isolated thunderstorm to the north possible as well.

Behind the trough, a surface cold front will drift south- southwestward across the region and temperatures will drop down near seasonally average, with highs in the mid to low 70s, for the second half of the week. High pressure will build into the region from the north on Thursday bringing dry weather to end the week. Global models show an upper level trough developing over eastern Canada and moving south this weekend. Currently precipitation chances are low, but a cooler air mass moving into the region is possible. Though, there is plenty of spread among models in regards to high temperatures, so confidence is low on how cool it will be.

AVIATION /12Z Monday THROUGH Friday/
The main aviation weather concern will be regarding low ceilings and areas of dense fog with low visibilities early this morning. Conditions are starting off impactful for aviation with LIFR/IFR ceilings and visibilities this morning. Flight categories will improve quickly later morning. Mainly VFR conditions are expected by the afternoon through the late evening. There is the potential for areas of low stratus ceilings and fog with IFR conditions to redevelop after 06z tonight. Winds will be rather light and variable at times. A general northeasterly flow of 5 to 8 knots will develop later today into this evening.

Outlook...Non-VFR possible with rain showers in central Ohio on Wednesday.

MARINE
Overall beautiful and quiet marine conditions are expected to continue for Memorial Day and linger much of this week. High pressure will build in across the region. Winds will be light and variable under 10 knots and waves of 1 foot or less are expected to persist through mid- week.
