KEY MESSAGES

- Another Cold Night With Lake Effect

- Additional Snow Chances with Warming Temperatures Through The Week

UPDATE
Issued at 855 PM EST Tue Feb 18 2025

Much of the area is still overcast although some breaks in the clouds have begun to develop mainly near and south of I-96 and east of U.S. 131. Expected trend is for skies to turn partly cloudy overnight east of 131 while clouds and light snow showers persist west of 131. The current low temp forecast near zero or colder will be highly contingent on the expected clearing but if/where clouds persist temps should hold near 10 above.

DISCUSSION
Issued at 315 PM EST Tue Feb 18 2025

- Another Cold Night With Lake Effect

We'll see one more cold night with lows around zero inland and around 10 near the lakeshore. Wind chills overnight into Wednesday morning will be around 5 to 10 degrees below air temperatures.

Diurnal snow showers will taper off around sunset with lingering light lake effect snow continuing along the lakeshore. Northerly flow continues off of the lake with 850mb-lake temp differences around 21C. Saturation is well within the dendritic growth zone if we see better surface convergence develop it could increase snow totals, but currently along the lakeshore around 1 to 2 inches is expected through Wednesday morning.

With the additional snowfall and cold temperatures slick conditions are likely into Wednesday morning, especially along the lakeshore.

- Additional Snow Chances with Warming Temperatures Through The Week

We'll see several chances for snow over the next week with the first round Wednesday/Wednesday Night. A 500mb wave and vorticity max will move largely south of the area, but will amplify the lake effect set up with the lakeshore counties seeing the best chances 60-80% overnight into Thursday morning. Probabilities of 2 inches or more are high (70% or more) along the lakeshore and then quickly drop off as you move farther inland. Lake effect looks to linger into Thursday before warmer air riding the advancing ridge moves in Thursday night.

We'll have to keep an eye out for a few more quick moving clippers over the weekend. At this time amounts if any would be light. These shortwaves will aid in bringing in warmer air resulting in highs in the upper 20s by the end of the work week and then 30s for next week.

AVIATION /00Z TAFS THROUGH 00Z THURSDAY/
Issued at 607 PM EST Tue Feb 18 2025

MVFR conditions are currently impacting MKG and will continue to do so through the TAF window as lake effect snow showers persist.
Temporary drops to IFR are possible in an heavier snow showers.
At all other sites VFR conditions are expected for most of the TAF period with ceilings possibly scattering out near midnight. After 18z increasing WNW winds will lead to MVFR clouds and possibly lake effect snow showers moving inland to all terminals. Have included VCSH where the best chance of showers through 00z Thursday is.
