KEY MESSAGES
Updated at 1247 PM CDT Sun Jun 28 2026

- Dry, hot, and breezy with wind gusts of 25 to 30 mph rest of today and Monday

- Dry and hot conditions persist for the entire week

SHORT TERM
(Tonight through Monday night)
Issued at 1229 PM CDT Sun Jun 28 2026

Morning clouds are breaking and will lead to sunny skies this afternoon. Also, you may see some milky skies at times and that is because the Saharan Air Layer has made it to the local area. Breezy and gusty conditions are in store for the rest of today into the evening period with southerly winds of 15 to 20 mph and gusts of 25 to 30 mph. Can't rule out spotty wind gusts as high as 35 mph through the period. Otherwise, hot with highs in the mid 90s over parts of the southern Edwards Plateau and Hill Country and mid to upper 90s across most of the local area. The hottest area is the Rio Grande Plains and portions of the southern Edwards Plateau where highs are forecast to reach 100 to 102 degrees. Heat index values of 100 to 107 are likely along and east of Interstate 35 corridor, the Coastal and Rio Grande Plains areas. A few locations near the Eagle Pass and to the south could experience heat index values around 108 to 110 for a few hours mid to late afternoon.

For tonight, the breezy conditions continue but not as gusty. Low clouds develop mid to late evening and then spread across most of South Central Texas through Monday morning. Lows in the 70s.

Clouds will be gone by noon Monday with sunny skies but milky looking due to Saharan dust for the afternoon. With high pressure dominating at all levels, southerly flow in control, and cloud-free skies, we are anticipating another hot day and even hotter than Sunday with highs in the upper 90s along the I-35 corridor and 100 to 102 degrees over portions of the southern Edwards Plateau and Rio Grande Plains. Forecast heat index values a bit lower than those today (Sunday), however still ranging from 100 to 107 along the I-35 corridor, Coastal and Rio Grande Plains. Continued breezy and gusty with southerly winds around 15 to 20 mph and wind gusts of 25 to 30 mph.

An active dryline over west Texas will serve as the initiation feature for storms out that way in the afternoon. However, a steering flow from the southwest to south could bring some showers or even a storm close to western Val Verde County in the evening.

LONG TERM
(Tuesday through next Sunday)
Issued at 1229 PM CDT Sun Jun 28 2026

The persistent dry and hot weather conditions persist through the work week. Daily highs in the 90s and lows in the 70s for the most part. However, can't rule out an isolated shower or even a thunderstorm moving across the Coastal Plains Tuesday through Friday afternoons with the help of the sea breeze. Same situation for the western part of Val Verde County due to the present of the dryline over west Texas.

AVIATION
(18Z TAFS)
