New AVIATION

SHORT TERM
(Today and tonight)
Issued at 250 AM CDT Sat Jul 27 2024

Elevated CAPE is still currently seen over the region, with a few of the CAMs still insisting on isolated storms developing early this morning. These have been retained in the latest forecast, however any storms that do develop should be relatively short lived and non- severe. An upper ridge persisting overhead will again yield similar weather today as yesterday with mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid 90s. A shortwave will track across portions of the South Plains and far southern Panhandle this evening bringing similar potential for isolated storm development.

LONG TERM
(Sunday through Friday)
Issued at 250 AM CDT Sat Jul 27 2024

Upper level high pressure will move overhead on Sunday as the persistent upper trough over East Texas will have finally lifted northeastward to the mid-Mississippi Valley. The center of the ridge will move just to the east of the forecast area Monday but with the area definitely under the influence of the ridge. The center of the ridge will shift from the eastern half of Texas early in the week to the intermountain West by the end of the week. As a result temperatures (both highs and lows) will increase Sunday, peaking midweek, then slightly decreasing late week with the center of the ridge moving to our northwest. Precipitation chances should be minimal through midweek, although with the adjustment of the ridge to the northwest by Thursday night, there could be some thunderstorms develop along a surface trough late day/evening with a slight chance mention across the northwestern zones looking plausible.

AVIATION
(12Z TAFS)
Issued at 602 AM CDT Sat Jul 27 2024

Isolated thunderstorms may briefly impact KLBB and KPVW this morning. Isolated storms may return this evening, however confidence is not high enough to include in the TAF. Otherwise VFR and generally light southerly winds will persist.

LUB WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES
None.
