12z TAF Aviation Forecast Update
SYNOPSIS
High pressure centered over West Virginia will move to New England and remain nearly stationary into the weekend. Low pressure from a tropical system will move into the mid Mississippi Valley by the weekend and weaken.
NEAR TERM /THROUGH THURSDAY/
615 am update...
No forecast adjustments were needed at this time.
Previous discussion...
More quiet weather with above average warm temperatures are in the forecast over the next couple of days. High pressure centered over the the Mid-Atlantic region will remain in control of our weather pattern. Skies will be mostly clear to fair weather conditions. Today's afternoon temperatures will rise into the low 80s over NWPA/NEOH and mid to upper 80s are expected over NWOH. Temperatures will be a degree or two warmer on Thursday in the mid 80s for NWPA/NEOH and upper 80s to near 90 for NWOH.
SHORT TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT/
A quiet short term period is in store as surface high pressure remains underneath a large upper-level ridge across much of the Eastern CONUS. The remnants of Francine will begin to approach the OH Valley by late Thursday night into Friday, though the dry mid- level air in place should limit any precipitation chances across our area and thus, have continued the decreasing PoP trend for this update.
Temperatures will remain above average underneath the ridge, with highs in the mid-80s for Friday and Saturday.
LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/
The quiet stretch of weather will continue through the long term period as the upper-level ridge becomes further amplified as far north as Hudson Bay. Cloud cover and perhaps precipitation chances may increase from the east and southeast on Tuesday, as a coastal low is expected to form and move onshore near the Carolinas. Above- average temperatures will persist through the long term period with highs in the low to mid-80s.
AVIATION /12Z Wednesday THROUGH Sunday/
High pressure and VFR conditions are expected for this set of TAFs. Skies will be mostly clear to fair weather skies for this time period. Winds will be light easterly flow 5 knots or less.
CLE and ERI may see a light lake breeze this afternoon up to 8 knots. The lake breeze will fade away this evening.
Outlook...Mainly VFR expected through Sunday.
MARINE
A mainly quiet marine period is in store across the region into the weekend with no headlines expected. Surface high pressure centered directly overhead will lead to light flow today. A slightly stronger NE pressure gradient flow of near 15 knots will develop in the afternoon hours beginning Thursday through Sunday, though winds and waves are expected to remain below Small Craft criteria for the time being. Will need to continue to wind trends, particulary on Friday and Saturday afternoon.
