KEY MESSAGES
1) Hot and humid weather likely next week.
DISCUSSION
KEY MESSAGE 1...Hot and humid weather likely next week.
Major pattern change starts late this weekend and early next week as ridging builds across the Great Lakes and then amplification intensifies over the eastern CONUS through next week. Heights building to ~596 dm next week over the Ohio Valley will set the stage for stage for a hot and humid airmass across western and north central New York, with the potential for multiple consecutive days of 90+ degree weather and even hotter heat indices from Tuesday through Friday. Heat-related headlines will be likely during this period, as the likelihood for dangerous heat indices increase. Some relief from the heat is possible during the mid week period with the potential for showers and thunderstorms, but predictability is too low at this forecast range.
AVIATION /18Z FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/
Daytime heating and low level moisture have led to cumulus development across western and north central NY, producing brief periods of MVFR ceilings at KBUF, KIAG and KART. Low level moisture is expected to linger across the region tonight, however confidence is low in whether stratus or fog will be favored. Based on forecast soundings and guidance, lowered visibility to MVFR/IFR at the TAF sites for the second half of the night through daybreak Saturday.
A wave of low pressure is expected to move along a stationary front well to the south Saturday. Clouds will increase from the south Saturday with a low chance of showers south of the I-90 corridor through early Saturday afternoon. VFR conditions are expected with ceilings 3-5k feet across the western Southern Tier.
Outlook...
Saturday...VFR.
Sunday through Tuesday...Mainly VFR.
Wednesday...Mostly VFR.
MARINE
A weak gradient in place will lead to an overall quiet period across the lower Great Lakes this weekend and through much of next week.
Daily lake breeze circulations are favored this weekend into early next week, with a more south to southwest flow favored by the middle of next week.
BUF WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES
NY...None.
MARINE...None.
