DISCUSSION
Issued at 220 AM EST Tue Mar 3 2026

- Slight Chance (20 percent) for Drizzle Today

This morning we'll be keeping a close eye on observations with the shortwave moving through. Low level moisture increases with the potential for some patchy drizzle. This 20 percent chance is focused largely along and south of I-96. Depending on air/surface temperatures there could be a brief period of freezing drizzle early on this morning before temperatures warm above freezing.
Icing, if any would be limited to a light glaze. Temperatures will increase into the upper 30s to low 40s this afternoon. There is a signal for some fog to develop tonight with the inversion in place and light winds with residual low level moisture. If fog does develop, there will be a chance for it to freeze on surfaces with lows tonight in the mid to upper 20s.

- Rain Wednesday into Thursday

Wednesday rain approaches from the south, but may stay toward the MI/IN border through much of the day, before flow becomes more southwesterly with the approaching low Wednesday night. Chances increase into Thursday (60 to 80 percent) with the low moving overhead Thursday before dry conditions move in Thursday night.
The probability of a half inch or more of rain is 30 to 50 percent across much of the area with probabilities of 1 inch or more of rain 20 percent or less. High temperatures in the 40s to 50s are expected.

- Showers and Thunderstorms Friday into Saturday

Southwest flow picks up bringing more moisture, warmer temperatures, and instability to work with. Highs are expected to be in the 50s and 60s bringing another taste of spring. Within the warm air advection, chances for rain and thunderstorms build Friday afternoon into Friday night to 70 to 90 percent. Drier air moves in later Saturday into Sunday with temperatures slightly cooler on Sunday in the 50s. Probability of a half inch or more is 40 to 70 percent and 20 to 40 percent for 1 inch or more Friday through Saturday.

Light and variable winds are expected throughout the day into tonight with the potential for fog to develop Wednesday morning.
