KEY MESSAGES

- Northerly gale force gusts will continue across the open waters of Lake Michigan until early this evening

- Temperatures will return to near normal Saturday then back above normal early next week, with dry weather likely the next few days

- A colder airmass may return to the region later next week

SHORT TERM
Issued 1121 PM CST Fri Nov 6 2026

Current Overnight through Sunday Night:

Clear skies, sudsidence, and light winds will allow temperatures to drop in the the mid 20s for lows overnight. High pressure persists through Saturday with light west to southwest winds and a mix of sun and clouds as cirrus moves overhead.

Weak WAA will kick in late Saturday into Sunday and temperatures will moderate into the upper 50s for highs on Sunday amid continuing dry and sunny conditions. A cold front that was originally expected to come through on Monday has sped up in the models, and should arrive during the afternoon Sunday. However the dearth of moisture over the region will keep the frontal passage dry.

LONG TERM
Issued 1142 PM CST Fri Nov 6 2026

Monday through Thursday:

Brief WAA behind the Sunday cold front will keep temperatures above normal in the upper 50s to near 60s on Monday. Then, series of dry troughs this week and relative high pressure will keep precipitation at bay much of this week amid a mix of sun and clouds. The latter part of the extended period has trended colder as a stronger cold front and Canadian high are expected to move out of central Canada into the upper Great Lakes region late this week. This will lead to temperatures at or slightly below normal for Thursday and Friday. Some lake effect rain showers may occur along the lakeshore on Thursday (15 to 30% chances) as favorable fetch and delta-T's will induce lake driven convection.

AVIATION
Issued 1144 PM CST Fri Nov 6 2026

VFR conditions and dry weather are expected through the TAF period as high pressure remains overhead.

Winds will be light and variable overnight and will then become light and westerly to southwesterly through Saturday.

MARINE
Issued 1145 PM CST Fri Nov 6 2026

Winds will continue to gradually ease overnight into Saturday as high pressure moves overhead overnight and then moves south into the Ohio River Valley through Saturday.

Westerly winds will then increase Saturday night into Sunday between the high departing to the southeast and a trough of low pressure approaching from the northwest. Locally, this may lead to Small Craft Advisory conditions Sunday afternoon. Breezy winds will then persist at times early next week as another shortwave moves through by Monday night.
